How to enter the French market (FFF)

ProSportStaff · 2026-08-28

FFF / UEFA licences, what French clubs expect, language and hiring calendar — plus how to position for FR jobs.

France’s pyramid runs from Ligue 1 academies to National 2/3, Régional and thousands of amateur clubs. The FFF controls coach education and UEFA alignment. You need a recognised licence (or equivalency), usable French and a profile clubs can verify quickly.

FFF / UEFA ladder

Courses map to UEFA C, B, A and Pro, delivered via regional leagues. Places are limited; waiting lists are real. Clubs look at UEFA level plus documented seasons.

Typical role requirements

  • UEFA C — children’s groups, football schools, lower amateur assistant roles
  • UEFA B — competitive youth head coach; many National 3 / regional academy roles
  • UEFA A — semi-pro and demanding academies
  • UEFA Pro — senior professional head-coach posts

Equivalency from abroad

A UEFA licence from another association is not automatic in France. Expect a recognition file, possible complementary modules, and months of lead time before you move.

Language and club culture

  • French B1–B2 practical floor; B2+ helps with parents in youth football
  • Written match notes, punctuality, respect for the sporting structure
  • Short documented local placements help build references

Hiring calendar

Peak staff hiring is May–July before reprise. Winter brings occasional replacements after coaching changes.
