Italian pre-season — when clubs hire staff

ProSportStaff · 2026-08-28

The real hiring calendar for Serie A–D and youth: when staff moves happen, which roles open, and how to position early.

In Italy, pre-season is not only beach training camps. It is when clubs lock technical, medical and performance staff — often more urgently than a player deal. If you wait until September to apply, you have missed the cycle. This guide outlines when and how the staff market moves; it is not legal advice.

Why Italy is a staff market, not only a player market

Club structures (first team, Primavera, youth, medical, match analysis) create many mid-layer roles. A new head coach often reshapes part of the staff. Summer prep (typically June–August) requires the group to be ready on the pitch — so hiring starts earlier.

Indicative calendar

  • March–April: end-of-season review; who stays
  • May–June: peak negotiation for coaches and staff after the league ends
  • July: training camps — critical roles should already be filled
  • August: late adjustments, interim and medical cover
  • January: smaller secondary window tied to the player transfer market

Roles most often sought before prep

  • Assistant coach / technical collaborator
  • Athletic trainer / S&C
  • Match / video analyst
  • Physio / sports medicine (separate professional rules)
  • Team manager / kit — essential on ritiro
  • U15–U19 / Primavera coaches when youth sectors restructure

What Italian clubs expect from foreign candidates

  • Clear UEFA licences on the CV
  • Italian B1–B2 for daily pitch and dressing-room communication
  • Documented seasons by age group / league
  • Immediate availability in June–July
  • References — informal networks still matter

How to position early (March–May)

  1. Update profile: role, licences, IT market, languages, availability
  2. Mark yourself available before camps start
  3. Follow transfers and confidential mandates on ProSportStaff
  4. Prepare a short Italian CV + profile link
  5. Targeted outreach beats mass spam

Links: transfer opportunities (/opportunities/transfers), coach jobs Italy (/jobs/sport/football-soccer/coach?market=IT), available coaches IT (/available/football-soccer/it/coach), create profile (/join?kind=coach).

Italian pre-season rewards those ready in spring. Clear licence, usable Italian, visible profile and timing — then the conversation is about football.
